General Info
Photo

True onyx is a massive formation of calcite that is used in carvings and is rarely included in jewelry because it is soft. The jewelry industry uses onyx to describe black dyed chalcedony. It produces a solid black stone that takes an excellent polish for very reasonable prices and accents gold superbly.

Treatments
Black onyx is almost always treated by dying. This treatment is permanent and stable.

Care Instructions :

Black onyx is hard and fairly durable. Often the design has stones that are inlaid into the metal in complex patterns and the corners can be subject to chipping on impact. Care should be taken with detailed inlay patterns (of any material). Use a soft brush, like a toothbrush with soap and water to clean your item.
