The name Chrysoberyl derives from the ancient Greek words for golden and crystal, respectively chrysos and berullos. Transparent chrysoberyl is most often green, yellowish-green, yellow or yellowy-brown in color. An extremely hard and brilliant gemstone that is frequently found as cat's eyes, legend maintains chrysoberyl cat's eye wearers would be protected from evil spirits, illness and poverty. Chrysoberyl is also the mineral of Alexandrite.
The value of Chrysoberyl is primarily based on the color and the size. Cats eye stones are based on the strength of the eye and the ‘milk and honey' effect caused by the different coloration on either side of the eye. They can get quite expensive.
