General Info

Citrine is the yellow form of the mineral quartz and is found in deposits throughout the world. The primary source of citrine in the market today is Brazil.

Color is the primary value characteristic in Citrine. The most prized citrines are a rich yellow color with even coloration throughout. The color variations range from a bright ‘lemon' to a yellow-orange color called ‘Madiera' in the trade. Large examples are regularly available for comparatively reasonable prices.

.

Treatments
Citrine is regularly heat treated to enhance the color. This treatment is permanent in usual wear conditions and is not detectable with traditional gemological instruments (When light colored Amethysts are heated, they sometimes develop a very pleasing yellow color as well).
