General Info
Photo

Tsavorite was discovered in 1967 in Tanzania and has quickly found favor as a precious colored gem of choice. It is a varity of Grossularite Garnet with high transparency, stunning luster and beautiful green colors. Only a handful of mines in Kenya, Tanzania and Madagascar produce this hard to find gem. Production is highly unpredictable with large specimens rarely found

Color is the primary value characteristic of tsavorite with a bright slightly yellowish green being the most desirable. Size is a secondary feature as large stones are extremely rare and valuable. (Size is secondary only because large stones are so rare that it is almost irrelevant what they are worth).

Treatments

Almost always untreated

Care Instructions :

Tsavorites are often used as a substitute for Emeralds because they are more durable but they are still somewhat soft and brittle. Don't use chemical or abrasive cleaners. Avoid situations where you are at risk to strike the stone against a hard surface. Tsavorite is not appropriate for everyday wear.
